Swiss professional tennis player and Number one at the ATP Ranking since February 2, 2004, Roger Federer won his fifth Wimbledon Championship on July 8, 2007, and equaled Björn Borg's Open Era record of 5 consecutive Wimbledon singles titles. Federer won Australian Open and US Open three times, while he never won the French Open. Roger Federer is the only tennis player in history who won three different Grand Slams for three times or more and beat Jimmy Connors' record of 160 consecutive weeks as #1 men's player and Steffi Graf's record of 186 weeks as #1 singles player in the world.

- North Korea closed the Yongbyon reactor.
- Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree that suspended the 1990 Conventional Forces in Europe Treaty (CFE) which limited the number of heavy weapons deployed between the Atlantic Ocean and the Urals mountains.
